Driver CPC is a Certificate in Professional Competence for professional HGV & Bus Drivers. It is implemented in Ireland as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59/EC, which is designed to set and maintain high standards of safety and driving.
Driver CPC for Bus Drivers was introduced in Ireland on the 10th of September 2008.
Driver CPC for Truck Drivers was introduced in Ireland on the 10th of September 2009
From these dates on
, professional drivers need to take part in continuous periodic training. This will involve drivers undertaking 35 hours of training within years.
The training must be completed in blocks of seven hours (i.e. one day). It covers areas such as road safety, environmental driving, and issues involving the health and well-being of professional drivers. Training does not involve a driving test or assessment. |
